Welcome to KIDZ R US!

If you have any qualms about amateur youth theatre, or think that shows by kids should be just for kids, think again. The talents, the production values, and the sheer energy of the cast and crew make a Kidz R Us performance truly astounding for any audience. The St Ives theatre company performs such challenging musicals such as Les Misérables, Oliver, and Jesus Christ Superstar (lyricist Sir Tim Rice is the company’s patron); and the older actors also put on more grown-up productions, including the recent and rather naughty Avenue Q.

Kidz R Us productions run throughout the year, although there are some gaps in the programme so check in advance. Most of their performances take place in St Ives Theatre, the former chapel that’s been home to the company since 1994, located in the centre of St Ives and handily near a couple of car parks.

If the chap running the interval raffle looks familiar, that’s because Kidz’s founder, chair, and local hero Phil Barnett was one of the contestants on The People’s Strictly for Comic Relief in 2015.

Only one word to describe this and that’s amazing, such a professional show the children were excellent, the production and costumes were excellent and a reasonably priced bar and sweet shop! Even Mother in law and teens were impressed!

I went to the matinee performance of Elf on 27/12/22 and have to say I was completely blown away by it. I was expecting the equivalent of a school play but what I actually got was a performance that was the equivalent of a West End show!! It was just so professional and polished. The children had clearly been thoroughly rehearsed and everything ran like clockwork. The costumes were amazing, as was the set and the scenery changes ran like clockwork. A very big shout out to everyone involved with staging the production. It’s hard to believe that you are all volunteers, such professionalism and dedication deserves recognition and reward. And well done to all the performers, particularly the lad who played Buddy and my two great neices who were elves! I live in Devon, but will definitely be making the trip down to St Ives to see future productions. We’ll done each and every one of you!

Incredible show!

We always look forward to the incredible shows at Kidz. The children are absolutely fantastic! The talent and pure enjoyment just radiates from the stage. The costumes and staging are brilliant. My young children absolutely loved it, they were laughing, singing and they loved being able to meet the cast and have their photos taken with them at the end. The kidz shows are a must see! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Excellent all round production in a friendly little theatre, converted from a former Chapel building. We’ve passed many times but this was our first visit. Wish we hadn’t waited so long!

The cast were all amateurs but you wouldn’t know it. There were some superb individual performances and no weak links. Even the younger actors look like they could be stars in the making. The show conveyed a real range of emotions from sadness, to side splitting laughs and ultimately, real joy.

The set was imaginative, Front of House staff incredibly friendly and even the programme production was first class.

Don’t miss this one if you are visiting St. Ives!
