BRIAN STEVENS, Honorary Curator of St Ives Museum will be giving an illustrated talk about the history of the Hain Steamship Company. He will tell the story of five Edward Hains of St Ives, all highly respected – from a huer for a seining company to shipping magnate. The line began with one small sailing vessel, and decades later the last Edward Hain, (1851-1917) moved the company into the steam era. A St Ives Mayor, County Councillor, M.P. for the town and major benefactor, Edward Hain was knighted in 1910 for services to shipping.
