The Keep guest entrance is approached from the Digey, a street which runs between the town centre (100m) and Porthmeor Beach (50m). The approach is fairly flat and level throughout, but bear in mind the Digey is cobbled, in common with much of St. Ives. Guest accommodation is on the ground floor at street level and there is only one 120mm step in the entire ground floor area. Oriental rugs are used extensively in the bedrooms and living area. The en-suite shower rooms are accessed from the bedrooms via toughened coloured-glass doors which open both ways. There is a 150mm step up into the shower areas through a permanent opening in the shower screen. No additional hand railings are fitted inside the showers.
The Keep (TR26 1HS) is located at the Porthmeor Beach end of the Digey. Approaching from the Beach we are at the end of the first alley on the right, off the Digey. You can see our distinctive entrance – a large oak door with the number 6 above it – from the end of the alleyway.
The Keep is best approached from St Ives town centre. Drive down to the harbour area and then take a left turn on Fish Street at the side of the Sloop Inn. Take the first left after about 50m then left again at the T-junction after 100m. Follow Back Road until you see Bumbles Tearoom directly in front of you (drive very slowly at this point). Instead of following the road to the right, park your car temporarily on the hard-standing immediately to the left of the Tearoom windows. Come and find us – we are at the end of the first alley on the right, off the cobbled Digey. Please do not rely on Sat Nav after entering the town area as it will inevitably misdirect you. Phone or text us (07889 162360) as soon as you reach the town as mobile reception from the unloading area is very poor.
The Keep is a 10 to 15 minute walk from St Ives station through the town centre. Go down Fore Street (the main shopping street) and carry on until you come to Cath Kidston. Here take the middle lane along The Digey. We are at the end of the last alleyway on the left before you reach Porthmeor Beach. Alternatively, you can take a cab from the station; ask for Bumbles Tearoom.
