Kidz R Us Theatre Group

Kidz R Us is a St Ives-based Youth Theatre company and registered charity. Founded in 1994, it performs a full programme of shows throughout the year.

Thanks to the dedication of an extremely hard working group of volunteers, Kidz R Us operates without any public subsidy, and since its inception has provided thousands of local youngsters (over 100 at any one time) aged 5 and above with the opportunity to develop self-confidence through a wide range of performance skills, and most importantly have fun together and achieve something worthwhile. An increasing number of graduates from the group are entering professional training for music and drama.

Based in its own 320 seat theatre (a partly-converted Weslyan Chapel) in the heart of St Ives the group has a well-deserved reputation for productions of the highest quality, and in recent years have taken up invitations to appear at the Royal Albert Hall, the London Palladium, and the Criterion Theatre, also in the West End, as well as at the world famous Minack Theatre on the cliffs at Porthcurno, near Land’s End.

The Kidz R Us performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat moved the much respected critic Frank Ruhrmund:

He wasn't the only critic to be impressed, the Kidz won the coveted Minack Trophy for 1995. The following year their production of "The Will Rogers Follies", which also appeared at the Minack, won the Natoinal Operatic and Dramatic Association's Regional Award for Excellence.

In 2006 Kidz R Us was honoured to be awarded the National Operatic and Dramatic Association’s (NODA) President’s Cup for the Most Outstanding Experience of the Presidential Year after he saw the productions of The Jungle Book and Les Miserables.
